The Saratov region is a part of Volga federal district. City of Saratov is the administrative center of the region.

The region borders on Samara, Penza and Ulyanovsk regions in the north, on Volgograd region - in the south, on Voronezh and Tambov regions – in the west, and has an international border with Kazakhstan in the east.

Saratov was the first city in Russia where in 1885 the Art Museum for general use was opened. In 1873 the first Russian national circus and in 1918 the first children's theater were opened in the city.

The national natural park Hvalynsky is located in Saratov region. Here there are also over 3 thousand architectural monuments. Besides, 18 ancient manors have been remained in Saratov.
